Cornell - NMSU Hughes Summer Exchange Program Application

Welcome to the Online Application. The Hughes Scholars Program New Mexico State University Exchange Program is open to Cornell undergraduates interested in doing research that is biological in nature at New Mexico State University, and NMSU students interested in similar research at Cornell.
How to Use This Online Application
We've provided instructions throughout the application to ensure a painless process. You will find help at every step of this application. The application will verify all information submitted and produce a summary for your review before the final submission. You do not need to complete this application on one try.
Information you submit each time will be saved and is available for change. However, no changes are possible after you make the final submission. We hope this new online application will expedite what would otherwise be a tedious process for you.
Accepted Applicants to the Cornell - NMSU Summer Exchange Program will:
- Be a Cornell or NMSU student in good standing.
- Spend 9 weeks doing full-time research that is biological in scope.
- Give a presentation at a future Cornell campus research event.
- Receive a stipend for the summer research program ($3,000) and a travel award ($500).
- The program will assist students in finding housing for the summer.
Application Requirements/Checklist:
- Online Application: This application must be completely filled out and submitted online.
- Transcript:
Have your transcript (including Fall 2007 grades) sent to the Hughes Scholars Program in 216 Stimson Hall.
Cornell Students: Request transcripts in person or in writing from the University Registrar (222 Day Hall) or from your College office. Unofficial transcripts must be sent directly from the College office. You can also do this electronically at Cornell's transcript page.
NMSU Students: Request transcripts from your campus Office of the Registrar. Unofficial transcripts must be sent directly to the Hughes Scholars Program. - A Personal Statement: Describe your reasons for wishing to participate in the Hughes Scholars Program; include your career goals and state how participation in this program would be relevant to your education.
- A Resume: This document should explain your previous work and/or volunteer experience.
- Letters of Recommendation: One letter is required. Letter #1 should be from a Cornell faculty member, possibly your academic advisor, or a research advisor who knows you well.
